Metzler 880 Marathon is a great tire. Stick with the stock size unless you are going with a bigger rim.

Actually you can go up to a 170 rear tire on the stock rim. Shinkos or Metzlers will work.

I've run lots of different tires, Shinko Tour Masters, Metz 880's, Avons (which I don't like) and just recently tried the RWL Dunlop Qualifiers....I like the Dunlops the best. They mount and balance well, have good stop & go traction and IMO, look nice on the bike.

Yes you can go to a little bigger tire on a stock rim but there really isn't any advantage. It certainly doesn't look any wider, more trouble than its worth unless your going to go with a bigger rim, notching the swing arm or doing the washer swap. If your thinking its going to look wider, it doesn't.

Its all in the eyes of the beholder. I liked the 170 over the 150.

Mechanic at a shop I deal with gave me a real good description of what a tire does when you put a bigger tire on a rim then it was designed for. I was ready to go with a 170 up until that point, I know there are lots of guys that have gone to the 170 on a stock rim, if nothing else it sounds bigger,it doesn't look any bigger on the bike from what I've seen. To each his own I guess.

Part of that is footprint as well, the 170 looks to have a bigger footprint than the 150, but your only looking at 10 mm on each side and that isnt much...BUT...I have the 170...and especially with the shocks dropped 1.5 inches...it really fills out the wheelwell, and is nice and rounded, and does what I want it to do.

I went to the 170,and I think it looks a lot better.i had to make no modifications.no body has mentioned this but I have noticed a difference in the gearing.bigger tire=taller gearing.i enjoy that since I ride a lot of highway miles.helps on mpg too.
