Going to get straight to the point guys...best I can anyway. Thanks in advance for any help!
I've stripped the clear coat and paint off the scoops.(the correct way,by the way) I got good aluminium polish from my local HotRod shop and went to town. The top of the scoops came out close to chrome, but the lower parts that were left slightly rough (for paint adheartion, I'm guessing) will not polish out smooth..Do I need to go with super fine sand paper to get closer to slick metal and repolish????
Give me some guidance fellas,please

I've never done my scoops since I just chromed them out for less maintenance. I did polish a set of dymag aluminum wheels a few years back that were badly tarnished up from sitting outside to the environment over the years. I ended up sanding them down once to 400 grit then step polishing them all the way up to 3000 grit while after than I used mothers mag & aluminum polish with the red powerball and last powermetal MD polish with the yellow powerball. The first go at it wasnt shiny enough as I wanted so I ended up sanding back down to 250 grit, by the way this is wet sanding, then all the way backup up to 3000 grit and last the two mothers polishes with the powerballs. This time it was a nice chrome finish. I did have a few blemish spots due to bad pitting but overall they looked good to me.

Hope this helps....

Two good recommendations from you, and I listen to one one,and doing the other! Haha
I did as you recommended about polishing my air scoops an they turned out absolutely brilliant. Your on point man! After completing the whole process and loving the outcome, I'm also going to do as you did and get'um chromed...They just look to damn good. So as soon as I see a filling of the aluminium, off they go to the plate shop...(In the winter)
So, again... A big THANK YOU for the advise.

Great job and I am glad it paid off for you too. Its a lot of work to keep polished items looking good over the years whereas chrome just always looks good!

Glad I could help a fellow vmax owner.

ride safe,

Mike

I did the exact step sand and polish on my front wheel to get all the mill lines out of it. had to start with 180 grit first and it took ALOT of elbow grease but it turned out very nice. Good match for the RC wheel I have on the rear.
