On my '89 the second gear has been out for years. Did Yamaha ever do a recall on that issue? Thanks..tom

To the Best of my knowledge, No, Yamaha never did a vehicle recall. As far as I know the 2nd gear problem has always been considered an Operator caused problem. and the only way to fix this is to remove the engine from the cradle, split the cases and inspect and remove and replace second gear, after you get it under-cut... and of course remove and replace the shift fork... as most likely this is what is actually the cause it is no doubt bent so you can not get 2nd gear to engage... and while your at it, with the cases split, you might as well "re-fresh" the entire engine! Bearings, cylinders, rods, heads... etc......

Either way it is a time consuming, expensive, repair... not one for the meek or mechanically challenged!
